The other day I was asked to fill in for a softball team, and so being 40 years old, reality set in that I might need to take some swings before I get to the game so I do not pull a muscle or embarrass myself. One might say I was lacking confidence in my swinging skill. So, I found time in the 45 minutes that I was able to come home between afternoon and evening meetings to take some swings in my backyard off my children’s tee with the hope to build my confidence. Needless to say my swing was hurting pretty badly in those 10 swings I took at home and my confidence when backwards instead of forwards.
I share this quick story from this past Tuesday because God’s Word to us this weekend, in Ephesians, is going to speak about our confidence that we have through our faith in Him to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus to the world. With this in mind let me ask you how confident are you in your relationship with Jesus and your skills in sharing the good news of Jesus? The church in Ephesus was lacking confidence so God spoke to them through Paul with the intent to build their confidence. What in your faith has functioned like a tee for a baseball player? For me personally it has been digging into God’s Word and just simply listening to His living and active words.
Sometimes, though, it is so hard to find the time in the midst of a busy life. In 1 Peter 3:15 God’s ancient word states, “But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” Our prayer for this upcoming weekend is that as we dig into God’s ancient words that He will build your confidence in your relationship with Jesus so that you will be more prepared to share Christ’s story with love. We pray you can find time to join us. If you are out of town this weekend please visit our website trinityutica.com to listen in on the weekend message.
