Hope

By: Rev. Justin Krupsky, Senior Pastor

On Tuesday morning as I left for work at 7am my youngest son Oliver asked me if I would play Super Mario with him when I got back home from work.  I looked at the little guy and said yes.  I had given Oliver a promise, and now his hope was anchored on my promise.  So guess what happened when I got home from work? We played Mario together and Oliver’s hope became a reality.

Hope is the anticipation for something good to come.  Hope is what enables us to have resilience and perseverance when we face challenges.  Hope is what became a reality that first Christmas.  Hope is what Jesus gave.  Hope is what He still gives, not just for the future reality of Heaven, but for the present reality of Heaven in our day-to-day lives. Psalm 130 says:

Out of the depths I cry to you, LordLord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy.

If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness,so that we can, with reverence, serve you.

I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope.

I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.

Israel, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with him is full redemption.
He himself will redeem Israel from all their sins. He fulfilled their hope and He promises to fulfill ours.

This Christmas season I wonder, what hopes do you have?  Where is it that you are wavering and could use some more hope?  What is your source of hope?

The truth of our faith is that Jesus is our anchor, and when we have Jesus has our anchor, we will always have hope.  I do not know what obstacles you are facing in your life, but what I do know is that there is hope because of Jesus.

My prayer this Christmas is that as your faith in Jesus is strengthened, that hope, an eager expectation of something good to come, will be awakened in your soul like never before.  That you will see that your Heavenly Father is playing Super Mario with you!
