Did you hear the latest “God is on the Move” story at Trinity?
This past Wednesday Trinity suddenly had a need for a new second grade teacher. Not exactly what Principal Bruce Volkert was hoping to discover five days before the start of school. The staff started to pray! Contacts were made. And God was up to something nobody saw coming.
An experienced teacher from Trinity Lutheran School in Joppa, Maryland who moved back to Michigan this summer felt led to further explore being on the approved substitute teacher list for Trinity, Utica. He came by on Thursday to drop off his paperwork. His appointment was with HR director Cyndi Carpenter in the church office…but he went to the school office to turn in his forms and have his pre-approval session as a substitute teacher. Hmmm. Can you see where this is going?
Sometimes it feels like we are in an insurmountable situation. There is no way to get a quality teacher with 14 years of experience in Lutheran schools 5 days before the start of school. Right? And yet…that is exactly what happened. When you are facing an overwhelming difficulty, remember this: God is working things out you haven’t even prayed for yet. Trust Him. Trust His ways and His timing. It sure looks like God is on the Move again—meeting our needs in ways that remind us that the mission is His mission and He will provide!
As I stood singing the final song at the opening chapel for the 2017-18 school year on Monday I couldn’t help but look over at the new second grade teacher, doing all the hand motions and singing with his students “God is on the Move.” Yes, God certainly is on the Move.
So, in case you haven’t met our new second grade teacher, please greet Mr. Phillip Belfiori with a warm Trinity welcome. Please also join the growing chorus of praise and thanks to God for miraculously taking care of our second graders and their families! When I shared this article with Phillip at staff devotions he noticed the verse I included. “This is the very verse God used to sustain me this summer as I prayed and waited for God to supply my next teaching assignment!” God is once again on the move--meeting the needs of his people at Trinity! God is once again on the move – for YOU!
“For I know the plans I have for you,’
declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not harm you,
plans to give you hope and a future.'"
