By: Rev. Justin Krupsky, Senior Pastor
How broad are your shoulders? In the past six months, for me this phrase has taken on new meaning in my calling as a pastor here at Trinity. I remember the first Sunday after I accepted the call to be the Senior Pastor at Trinity how a feeling came over me much like the moment before Jenni’s and my wedding ceremony began and much like the moment Toby was born. It was a feeling of weight. I do not know how else to describe it. There are moments in life where we know we have more responsibility, more cares, and even perhaps more pressure.
What I was taught as young child was that Jesus’ shoulders are much bigger than mine, and this is the truth I leaned in on in those moments and the truth I lean into each moment of each day.
This Christmas I am finding myself reflecting on this truth shared in the Christmas Prophecy in Isaiah 9:6, “Unto us a child is born, unto a son is given and the government is upon His shoulders.” His shoulders, not mine. Thank you God for showing me how big your shoulders are in Jesus. How You took on the weight of the world, all the responsibility, all the pain, the sorrow, all the worry, everything.
My prayer this Christmas for all of us is that whatever the weight is that we are carrying, that we will give it to Him. That we will surrender to the one who became one of us. The one who took on our sin and burden so that we would be free. The Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace has come and He is Lord of all. May we let Him do what He came to do for us.
